Saints Boys Volleyball Players recognized as Elite Community Athletes

Earlier this week the City of Kenora Council Chambers were filled with the St. Thomas Aquinas High School Volleyball Team, along with their families and coaches, as the players were recognized as Elite Community Athletes by Mayor Dan Reynard.

The students received high praise for their recent silver medal victory at OFSAA, where they were honoured for their dedication and commitment and for bringing recognition not only to their school but also their community.

Saints Recognized by Mayor as Elite Community AthletesIn a presentation to the athletes, Mayor Dan Reynard spoke about the achievement.

"After qualifying for the OFSAA Provincial Championships, these nine student-athletes entered the competition as an unranked team. Undeterred, these boys never quite from the moment they arrived in Bellville. Nobody from OFSAA expected them to move beyond the preliminary round. These players never gave up on themselves or each other resulting in the team advancing to the provincial championships. What they did was the result of hard work and dedication to themselves and to the commitment to their end goal of OFSAA. That dedication, combined with the leadership and commitment of their coaches, Megan Derouard and Blake Lundin, led them to be the success they are today."
