Grand Council Working with KCDSB

Treaty #3 leadership is meeting with the KCDSB to improve indigenous education outcomes in the area.

KCDSB Director of Education Dr. Derek Haime, as well as Superintendents Paul White and Michelle Sawa, met recently with Grand Chief Francis Kavanaugh to discuss partnerships in education and ways to improve student success for First Nation students.

The KCDSB has made it a priority to provide education with a Catholic-based setting that includes the cultural and traditional values of its First Nation students.

Some of the ways the KCDSB has achieved this are with regular seasonal pow wows hosted by the schools, as well as the introduction of the Elder in Residence Program in 2016.

Grand Council Treaty #3 will continue to collaborate with KCDSB on the development of strategies that will provide enhanced knowledge on the history and background of Treaty #3, its members and communities, the provision of land-based teachings, and all education activities that will contribute to the improvement of student success.
