Kenora Catholic Announces Director of Education Appointment

Derek HaimeAt the Board Meeting of October 16th, the Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Derek Haime as the next Director of Education and Secretary for the Kenora Catholic District School Board.

Derek Haime, currently an Education Officer with the Ottawa Regional Office, will assume the role of Director of Education on February 1, 2019. Haime has over six years of experience as a Supervisory Officer with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and two years as an Education Officer with the Ministry of Education. He also holds a Doctorate in Education Leadership and a Master's Degree in International Education (Education Leadership).

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to welcome Derek as the new Director of Education,” said Frank Bastone, Chair of the Board. “We are confident that his extensive leadership experience, valuable working knowledge of the provincial government and devotion to creating relationships with students, families, staff and the community will continue to realize our strategic vision of excellence in Catholic education.”

Dr. Haime has over 25 years of experience in education and has been an elementary and secondary school principal within four schools at the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. He has also served on provincial committees including being the Vice Chair of the Catholic Curriculum Corporation and Mentor Coach for the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers' Association. During his time at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) he served on the Waterloo Regional Crime Prevention Council - First Nation, Métis and Inuit Representative, Truth and Reconciliation Sub Committee Chair and also Chaired the WCDSB's Accommodation Review Committee.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Director of Education for the Kenora Catholic District School Board,” said Haime. “Kenora Catholic is well known for its reputation of academic excellence, student achievement, and innovation and I'm looking forward to building relationships and partnerships that support students and families. Together we will continue to build on successes, and strive for new goals in our next Strategic Plan.”

Derek Haime is the proud husband to wife Kelly and father of Elias, Kathleen, Zachary and Jessica. He's also a devoted grandfather to Shea. He is a farmer, outdoorsman, amateur vocalist and choir member and voracious reader.

Dr. Haime will become the Kenora Catholic District School Board's fifth Director of Education. He will succeed Phyllis Eikre who held the position for the past ten years and announced her retirement in June.
