"We make traps both in the snow and in the trees and then we walk along the trap line and set them. We made a Marten box trap and a snare trap," said Pope John Paul II School Grade 6 student, Noah Boucher.

Students from both schools have been taking turns going out on the trap line in the snow to learn about the different traps. The event culminated with a lunch at the Elder and Youth Centre on Pow wow Island.

Brad Ngaya explained what he learned from the experience.

"I learned how to love nature. We have t respect it because it's the thing that's giving us food and life, the trees give us air. We have to work to protect nature," he said.

The trap line experience was part of a push for more experiential learning that aims to see students get outside the classroom.
